Shortlisted!
Two Botanic projects have been shortlisted for the 2026 Resene NZILA Awards: Te Hurihanga ō Rangatahi – Youth Hub Christchurch and Te Kopikopiko o te Waka. Both projects celebrate the power of landscape to support wellbeing, express cultural stories and strengthen connections between people and place.
Eight reasons to celebrate!
The 2026 NZIA Canterbury Architecture Awards celebrate projects that enrich our communities through design excellence, innovation and collaboration. Botanic is proud to have contributed to eight award-winning projects, with landscapes ranging from rooftop gardens and school courtyards to theatre precincts and residential settings, each helping to create memorable and enduring places.
An urban foraged fragrance
Botanic's latest sensory exploration is a distillation adventure into the scents of our local urban landscape. In February, we hosted an evening of foraging, distillation and experimentation with hydrosols made from native plants.
Landscapes of Distinction Awards 2025
This year, two of our garden designs have been recognised with Gold awards at the 2025 Landscapes of Distinction Awards, presented by Registered Master Landscapers. These awards honour the very best in New Zealand’s professional landscaping, but for us, they’re really about the people and places behind them. Rugged on Rēkohu
Botanic's 2024 field trip was to Rēkohu / Chatham Islands - a fascinating place with diverse landscapes, plant communities and cultures. A week spent getting to know the place, meeting the locals and savouring the local kaimoana.
A win for the gin!
Botanic are delighted to win a He iti Pounamu Award of Excellence at the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects 2024 awards for the ‘Botanic Gin Project’ - creating the taste of the urban landscape in liquid form while growing our design community along the way.
Soaking up garden inspiration
It’s refreshing to seek new ideas and gain inspiration. Recently the Botanic team headed up to the Sauvignon Blanc clad valleys of Marlborough for the 2024 New Zealand Gardens Trust Conference.
Joining over 120 gardeners, horticulturalists and designers Adrian and Paul toured fantastic and diverse gardens, chatted with like-minded colleagues, imbibed some of the local vino, and listened closely to knowledgeable speakers.
Botanic Gin Project
Like designing a planting scheme, crafting a gin uses the flavour and fragrant properties of each plant to design an overall composition.
Every year we host people from our design community to forage fresh botanicals growing in the public urban gardens of Ōtautahi Christchurch, and then we co-craft a gin together in the Botanic studio.
We are literally creating the taste of our urban landscape!
